Venturing Out for the First Time

This is my 5th installment of Babywearing Stories 365. Each installment features a babywearer in 1 photograph and their answers to 5 questions. My goal is to normalize, promote and celebrate daily Babywearing, moving beyond *what* we use to carry our babies and shifting focus back on *why* and *where* we carry. I hope to share the stories of moms, dads, and babywearing caregivers all over the world. Enjoy!

Babywearing Stories – 5/365

I’m a first time mom and babywearer. This is Joey when he was about 11 weeks old. Daddy is taking this photo of happy mommy and baby! We were at our local mall, where we got a few curious looks here and there while walking!

We are at our local mall to walk around and try out our Ergo for the first time.

This is our first day owning and first time trying our Ergo! I had been asking and asking for one, and they were out of our price range. A friend of mine was selling hers used, so we were able to buy it. I was so very excited, since I was slightly discouraged about Joey liking being worn up until this point. After dinner, we grabbed the Ergo, went to the mall, left the car seat in the car, and did it- finally! I was very excited and so was my husband. Joey pretty much slept the whole time, and this was honestly our best babywearing experience yet. Great day and great memory!

Being able to wear my baby was probably almost as important to me as breastfeeding him. I was so discouraged the first few times we tried and he didn’t like it. After this day, I tried him again in our other carriers and a wrap, and had great experiences each time. I think this day broke the ice for him and myself. We’ve been doing great ever since!
