Napping on the Beach

This is my 2nd installment of Babywearing Stories 365. Each installment features a babywearer in 1 photograph and their answers to 5 questions. My goal is to normalize, promote and celebrate daily Babywearing, moving beyond *what* we use to carry our babies and shifting focus back on *why* and *where* we carry. I hope to share the stories of moms, dads, and babywearing caregivers all over the world. Enjoy!

Babywearing Stories – 2/365

This is a photograph of me, Kelly, and my son, Tripp (7m). We were on vacation with my in-laws enjoying a wonderful warm sunny day in mid February in Florida while it was snowing back at home.

We are on the beach in Ft Myers, FL

I’m using my Didymos Niño woven wrap, my first woven that my husband had just given to me for Christmas. It was one of those gorgeous, warm, Sunny winter days that make you so excited to be sitting on a beach instead of shoveling snow. My husband, mother and father in law, and sister in law decided we just had to go to the beach. As my son is so young, we planned the actual trip to the beach around his nap times, but as we all know, by the time you get to the beach, park, get chairs, and find the perfect location, it’s nap time again! So I pulled out my wrap and started trying to get Tripp to fall sleep. Not an easy task in perfect conditions. I had my doubts, it was warm, there were tons of people around, and bright sun. It worked to my advantage that the sound of waves is our go to white noise on the Sleep Sheep. Much to my surprise, Within 5 minutes, Tripp was sleeping! I was comfortable with my little guy, and we both laid down for an afternoon nap. I felt like a rock star. I had managed to get Tripp to nap on the beach! We didn’t have to go home! We could all hang out for awhile longer, and I didn’t need to stress that his schedule would be so thrown off. It was a proud baby wearing moment for me. And I could relax knowing that he was comfortable, protected from the sun, and snuggling up for a much needed rest.

I choose to wear him to sleep because i knew that with all the stimulation around him, that i could give him a safe, comfortable place to turn away from it all and relax. I love baby wearing. I love having him close to me. I love the way he looks all around, so interested in what we are doing and who we are talking to. I love when he joins in on conversations. I love that we can get up and go and have him with us. But mostly I love that all the extra cuddle time makes him a happy little boy, and me a happy mama.
